Viña Ijalba It is a family winery in its third generation. Founded by Dionisio Ruiz Ijalba, who in 1975 made the decision to recover his old stone quarries by starting the planting of vineyards in them.
In 1991, Dionisio Ruiz, who already owned some 40 hectares of vineyards, was ready to found Bodegas Ijalba and his dream came true. It is a unique winery, committed to protecting the environment and in addition to having been the Rioja’s first certified organic winery it is focused on local rare and minority varieties.
The visit begins in a natural museum of autochthonous varieties, a small vineyard itself next to the entrance of the winery, which contains all the traditional varieties and many others recovered with which the history of Rioja has been written.
The standard guided tour continues inside the winery visiting the fermentation room, barrel room and is completed with the wine tasting.
The winery offers many other winelover experiences: unique tastings, bicycle routes, events, social gatherings or a visit to the Balcón de Ijalba, from where you can enjoy the magnificent Rioja landscape over the towns of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Briones and the meanders of the river Ebro.
