The historical recreation of the Auto de Fe of 1610 known as “The Witches of Zugarramurdi” was promoted by the Association of Neighbors of the Historic Center of Logroño.
This festival proposes dozens of popular activities including theatrical performances, concerts, guided tours, storytelling and parades.
We can also visit the Mercado de la Brujería, which has a hundred craft, food and decoration stalls installed in the Market Square and other streets and squares of the Old Town.
The Plaza de San Bartolomé serves as the setting for the central act, the Recreation of the Auto de Fe. More than one hundred volunteers from the Guardias de Santiago and Héroes del Revellín associations participate in it, as well as the group of Volunteers from Logroño.
In this way, through a complete program of activities, Logroño remembers what happened in the Auto de Fe of 1610, when the trial and burning of eleven residents of the Navarran town of Zugarramurdi were held, accused of witchcraft by the Inquisition.
A historical recreation that gains popularity year after year thanks to the work of neighborhood, cultural and voluntary associations.
